Sunday Yoga & Brunch

Four best coffee and brunch spots in and around Box Hill

A free day is a beautiful gift. Starting your Sunday with Yoga and brunch is a great way to treat yourself and recharge for the week ahead. Here's a list of my favourite cafes to go for coffee and brunch after Sunday morning Yoga:

1. Rubix Cafe, Middleborough Road Kerrimuir

Rubix is my old faithful who've been part of my life for a couple of years now. It's owned and run by a gorgeous couple with a young family and their staff all provide a wonderful service. It has a wide opened space with rustic style design and decor. The menu is delicious and really well priced (around $15 for breakfast) with great vegetarian and gluten free options. They have been especially generous with accommodating my food allergies, making alterations to meals where possible. The coffee is fabulous and they have both Soy and Lactose free milks to choose from. Find Rubix on facebook www.facebook.com/pages/Cafe-Rubix/210564665667384

2. Gourmet Girl Cafe, Laburnum Village

Gourmet Girl is located literally around the corner from the Laburnum Guides hall where Sunday Yoga sessions are held. It's a matter of a few minutes walk straight from Yoga to brunch. Admittedly I have not yet eaten at Gourmet Girl but they did make me a beautiful coffee with my special milk that I bring myself. They use an Organic Rainforest Alliance coffee, have a wide range of gourmet and allergy friendly options and have a gorgeous tapas menu. Gourmet Girl is located on a quiet corner among the beautiful leafy bush land hidden quietly in the centre of Laburnum. Visit www.gourmetgirl.com.au

3. The Honey Thief Bakery

If you love fresh, crunchy, high quality organic bread on the weekend then Honey Thief is the place for you. It's a gorgeous family owned and run bakery cafe baking the best sourdough made from only certified organic, stone ground flour, filtered water and salt. No nasties! The Honey Thief don't open on Sundays unfortunately but they are my regular coffee provider during the week. They too make me a coffee with my own milk and provide a fantastic service tailored to my dietary requirements. They make some amazing and creative soups and they also sell little jars of honey that they collected and jarred themselves from Blackburn Lake. If you live locally, the bees that made the honey may well have gathered pollen form your garden.

4. Red Robyn Gluten and allergen free Cafe, Camberwell

Red Robyn is a little drive away from Box Hill and Blackburn but I can guarantee you it is well worth the trip! If you don't have any food intolerance and just like to eat clean or even if you don't, the food here is a-MAY-zing! Each dish is a little work of art on a plate with carefully combined flavours. Everything is gluten free and there are many options of FODMAP friendly, Vegan, Fructose free and dairy free meals and beverages. The service is perfect and the chefs and managers are really down to earth. My favourite dishes are the Quinoa Zucchini fritters with Tabbouleh and Chipotle mayo or the smoked corn fritters with similar accompaniments. I usually treat myself to a coconut milk mocha as well - delicious! Visit redrobyn.com.au
