You want me to invert my what??
Overcoming the fear of inverting
The notion of getting upside down for many people, particularly Yoga beginners can elicit a fear response but there are many preparatory inversion poses that are accessible to beginners. The most common ones are Down Dog, forward fold and legs up the wall. An inversion is a pose where we get the head below the heart. The reported benefits of inversions include improved circulation, assistance with lymphatic drainage and improved nervous system function.
The mental benefits of inverting relate more to promoting changes in regular thinking patterns. When we turn ourselves upside down we clear the way for new perspectives and breaking through stagnant habits that no longer serve us.
